Description:
Contemporary linguistics researches the relation between language and thought from the perspective of their unity. Considering them “plans infused into one another”, language is supported by thought and, at the same time, thought cannot be formed outside the language. The function of the language is to serve as an instrument of idea formation, of its direct participation in the formation of the idea, to record changes in thinking through changes in the lexical inventory, but also to express «in a specific, proper way, the contained system (thinking and human experience) […]. » But the unity of language and thought does not imply their identity. Thinking means “the ability to mirror or even the process of mirroring reality in the form of notions, judgments, reason” and “has a more advanced mechanism than the possibilities of expression […].” […] It is usually admitted that the evolution of language takes place in parallel with the evolution of thought. As we find in the short history of linguistics, since ancient times observations have been made on the language, starting in India with Vedanga, the first language documents which, starting from the commentary of Vedic texts and whose purpose was to keep them in their form. Traditionally, they were called “philological grammarians”. (The author)
