About the Journal

Focus and Scope

JESS is an open access peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles which approach the ethics in social studies, and especially papers on social studies which raises a particularly ethical issue.

We encourage papers related to ethical issues in qualitative/quantitative research in social work, education, psychology, communication studies which may bring improvements to practice and policy- making.

The aim of the JESS is to encourage dialogue and debate across social, intercultural and international boundaries on the ethical issues arising in professional interventions into social life.

We focus on the ethical reflection on the professional practice and scientific research, but also on the implications in the ethical reflection in continuous improvement of social life.

The journal accepts manuscripts such as theoretical articles, research articles, reviews, editorials (only invited), letters to editors and comments.

An empirical research article or a theoretical article must contain a minimum of 20 bibliographic sources and a maximum of 50. At least 25% of the sources used should be from Web of Science indexed journals.
For a literature review article it is imperative to use 50 to 100 bibliographic sources, of which at least 25% should be from Web of Science indexed journals. The article should contain specific and expressly stated criteria for structuring the literature review
