Abstract

The purpose of our research is to identify the effects of migration on the quality of the relation between the partner living abroad and the partner who stayed in the country, and to study the manner in which the roles and responsibilities of the family members left behind changed, and to analyze the emotional effects on both children and parents. The family members who stay in the country and have to cope with this migration phenomenon try to develop new strategies to perpetuate family functionality. In most cases, the subjects argued that communication improved since the meaningless everyday arguments, which generated problems, disappeared and the family members focused on fructifying the positive aspects. The migration of a family member abroad has effects not only on the financial status, but also on the development of interpersonal relations, on everyday activity or on the children’s education.
