Abstract

As part of the culture and climate of a military organization, professional ethics acts as a powerful form of control. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the perception that Romanian soldiers have about ethical climate in military units and work-related attitudes. Eighty-five soldiers completed a standardized protocol that included five questionnaires. Perception of ethical climate was measured with a 16- item questionnaire. Work engagement was operationalized with a shortened version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale. Work involvement was captured using the Job Involvement Questionnaire. A ten-item scale for measuring overall job satisfaction was designed and administered to soldiers. Significant correlations among length of military service, perception of ethical climate in military units, work engagement, work involvement, and job satisfaction were found. Work engagement and work involvement partially mediated the relationship between perception of ethical climate in military units and job satisfaction.
