Abstract

Public administration in Iceland has several unique characteristics and peculiarities that are related to small scale governance, high level of trust, decentralization and local autonomy, integration of digital technology, environmental focus, cultural influence, gender equality, resilience and crisis management, international cooperation. Icelandic diplomats focus on areas where the country can have a significant impact, such as environmental advocacy, human rights, and multilateral cooperation. Iceland's diplomacy is shaped by its unique geographical location, small population, and historical and cultural context. As a small island nation in the North Atlantic, Iceland has developed a distinctive approach to international relations that emphasizes neutrality, multilateralism, and environmental advocacy.
