Abstract

This study examined the relationships between perception of managerial behaviours and employees’ work-related attitude. Participants (N = 123; 51 females and 72 males) were employees working in the public (N = 65)/private (N = 58) sector. Five self-administered questionnaires were used to collect data. The protocol included a form for demographic and professional status, a scale designed to capture job satisfaction, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale and Job Involvement Questionnaire, and a questionnaire designed to assess the perception that employees have about attitudes and behaviours of their managers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlational analysis, and bivariate linear regression. Except the perception about managerial style, no significant difference was observed between employees working in public sector and those working in the private sector. Based on the total sample, the perception about managerial style positively predicted work engagement, job involvement, and job satisfaction, while work engagement and job involvement were positive predictors of job satisfaction.
