Abstract

Since 1985, when Wayne Leon Payne has introduced the emotional intelligence concept, has been made a lots of studies to identify de role in self- development. This study examines the influence of emotional intelligence on academic performance among high school students. I measured the level of emotional intelligence with a specific test, making corellations with academic performance of students (quantified through grade-point-average for the year). Based on specialized literature the level of emotional intelligence among girls is higher than the level of emotional intelligence among boys. The results confirmed the hypothesis which means that the level of emotional intelligence can pe a good predictor for academic performance and emotional development is influenced by different neuropsychological development between girls and boys in the teenage years.
