I know little about Anina Ţarălungă, except that she lives abroad and asked me to read and preface her first novel. I could say she knows me better than I know her! Her first novel, At the crossroads of Illusions Boulevard and Liberty Street, was published last year by LUMEN Scientific Publishing House , Iasi. It is a small fresco of the transition seen through the perspective of the youthful gaze, with all that it can mean: from uncertainties of age to ambient poverty, from artistic research to overflowing eroticism. It’s very brave, imaginatively, and very pure at the same time. In fact, this is exactly how eroticism should be viewed from this perspective. I read it all at once with great pleasure, I must admit. I prefaced it with the joy of rediscovering a continent of very interesting age, the most interesting perhaps, and the most difficult to describe because it is teeming with ambivalances. Since my first reading of Salinger’s proses, I had lost a little bit of sight of this type of transition, that of ages. (Liviu ANTONESEI)
