There have been several concrete initiatives in the history of Romanian education for the schooling of Roma. Thus, for example, in 1949-1951, in Siria, in Arad County, the kind-hearted teacher Vasile Homescu organized a school for Roma, which was visited in 1951 by the Minister of Education Ion Nistor and Grigoraş Dinicu, who was then the representative of Romas. On this occasion, teacher Georgina Homescu enjoyed the special praise of the visitors for the brilliant way in which the 41 students in the class presented themselves at the lessons. Obviously, other timid or very successful experiments followed, such as, for example, the one in Gura Văii village (Bacau county), started on September 15, 1974 by the sociologist Mihai Merfea, a university professor at the Institute of Higher Education in Bacau. Such unique, artisan-type initiatives had their origin in humanity, the lucidity and the zeal of some teachers of the Romanian school and not as a result of a central policy. (The author)
