Description:
In the first section of the paper I argue that we cannot dispense in the Cartesian Cogito from the argumentative value of the first person and that doubt is what gives us the ego from “cogito, ergo sum”. Therefore, the reformulation “there is a thought” proposed by Wittgenstein must be amended with the introduction of the first person, thus becoming “my thought exists”. In the second section I try to show that “there is a thought” must be amended to “the (single consciousness) of one or more thoughts exists” and that, according to Descartes, what I notice when I say “cogito” is an act mentally doubled by his consciousness.
