If I were to characterize the last decade in terms of developments in Central and South-Eastern Europe, the word I would choose would be ‘tumultuous’. This is because under the welcoming umbrella of its meanings would find its place and the social movements that led to the fall of communism in this space, but also the anxieties, disturbances and uncertainties that followed the magical moment of liberation. And also in the sphere of this term I could include the search and construction of a political system that would face the specifics of each state, that would ensure the freedom that people wanted and that would provide the stability so necessary for a new beginning of life. Among all these meanings will find the disorientation of citizens who have to adjust to their new status, to realize that they now have not only obligations but also rights, and not only that, but now have the opportunity to choose their leaders, but also the duty to hold them accountable.
