Description:
Although 192 states (with the exception of Somalia and the United States) are signatories to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, millions of children remain at risk due to economic, social or psychological conditions. Violence against children remains largely hidden for various reasons. One reason is fear: many children are afraid to talk about incidents involving violence against them. In many cases, parents, who should protect their children, remain silent when the act of violence was committed by the spouse or another family member by a stronger member of society, such as an employer, a police officer or a community leader. Fear exists especially in places where the “honor” of the family is placed above the safety and well-being of children. (The author)
