This monograph does not aim to give us the answer to the existence of a lex mercatoria, but aims to give the jurist a knowledge of the subject with as little residue as possible. The approach is welcome in a matter of law that is clearly under the auspices of imprecision. Of a certain form of it born of people’s hopes and needs. This is a random contract, which is defined as uncertain in terms of the chance of winning or losing the parties. In turn, this chance is determined by an event related to the existence and extent of the parties’ benefits and which is obviously imprecise. In addition, the present paper aims to analyze precisely those random contracts in which the contractual relations of the parties involve personal benefits that extend, in most cases, over longer periods of time. Is it necessary to emphasize the unpredictability of human behavior appreciated on units of time sometimes equal to decades? This monograph dedicated to the life annuity contract and the maintenance contract represents a valuable scientific work, of a certain originality, dedicated to some institutions of great importance in civil law.
