The European Union is experiencing a multitude of crises today. Its economic-legislative achievements are remarkable and indisputable, but nonetheless, we cannot help but wonder if, in terms of the long historical duration, the Union can still offer the same optimal solutions, it must be radically reformed, or it can be considered outdated by reality. We should not be intimidated by the harsh restrictions of political correctness or the aridity of the multitude of bureaucratic documents, representing the legal framework of the Union. The historian is obliged to “see” beyond the appearance of texts or the immediate event, to correlate and to judge (as much as possible), eliminating from his analyzes, ideologizing or fetishizing. I set out to capture the situation of some states in the European Union, from the perspective of historical heritage, of certain geopolitical or ethnic particularities, which have marked their evolution and relations with their neighbors, how the potential threats of the future influence their foreign policy.
