The essay “Incarnate soul and animated body” is the doctoral thesis of the author, with the changes imposed by the editorial requirements. Alina Barbu, a graduate of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Bucharest, is a doctoral lecturer at the Naval Academy in Constanţa. The task assumed is a difficult one, first of all by including a massive corpus of texts, but also by the initiative to be their translator. The difficulty is compensated by the specific coherence, the transposition into Romanian being ensured, as I said, by the same “interpreter”. We notice the seriousness of the study, the rich information and the analytical finesse. The approach is made from the perspective of literary history and we are dealing with a balanced presentation of the opinions of previous commentators, of obvious reputation, and of their own. In its entirety, the essay should be seen as a meritorious endeavor to push further research in this direction. and the body, as well as their reflection in Baroque and metaphysical poetry in England and France ”.
