Description:

In the contemporary society, the woman crosses her path to success with much diligence and firmness. The indefinite milestones in the life of the modern woman are social assertion and financial independence, benchmarks that until recently were associated with male status. Today, the modern woman breaks down the barriers of prejudice and seeks the light of equality and social equity, after a long and tiring road in which she fought for the right. This fact also has consequences in the field of marital relations, where the modern woman demands equality in the distribution of household tasks, demands more time for her professional career, etc. Thus, it reduces the time spent in the family, demands greater freedom of decision and demands fairness in the development of marital roles. Therefore, the affirmation on the professional, political and public life level of women has led to a radical reconsideration of her role in the family. (Lect. PhD. Iulian APOSTU)

UNGURU, ELENA (2017). Review for the volume: Barbatul si femeia: imaginea unei polemici cu privire la echitatea de gen. Iasi, Romania: LUMEN Publishing, 2017, authors: Iulian Apostu & Cristina Georgiana Petrescu. Postmodern Openings, 8(2), 62-65.

In the view of the authors of the volume, the analysis of the social evolution of gender relations provides over time a good perspective of the social relations between men and women, but it can also explain the possible syncope of conjugal functionality, the development of role relations, given that the authors anticipate that the evolution from traditionalism to modernity has been achieved in different intensity depending on gender, resistance to the new, social environments, and other variables that have influenced the acquisition of valences of modernity. The importance of the volume is both a theoretical and practical nature for sociology specialists, but also for other researchers in the area of social sciences, interested in the field.
