Description:
For most of us, even the idea of deprivation of liberty – even legitimately realized – is able to tense us. Like other places considered haunted, the surroundings of the prisons seem to borrow some of the distortion around them. Prison is a space in the social imaginary that belongs both to those who commit serious antisocial acts and to those who must assure us that prisoners will not leave the perimeter sooner than established by court. To these is added the image of relatives or friends who visit the inmates. However, there is another category of people for whom the confinement space is a familiar one. They are the only ones who go there voluntarily. They are either the representatives of various NGOs that carry out activities meant to support those deprived of their liberty, or those who want to research the sui-generis phenomena that appear in this special social space, or the students of various humanities specializations that practice there. The well-managed curiosity, doubled by the methodical effort that accompanies the motivation born from passion, outlines works like the present one, which allow a more nuanced understanding and, through this, closer to the reality of the prison environment.
