Description:

This paper aimed to identify the perception that people with visual impairments have on physical and information accessibility as well as on their social integration, by comparison with the perception of people without disabilities on the same issues. By identifying the problems that a visually impaired person encounters in the above mentioned areas, it is desired to reduce or even eliminate them through the important role that social assistance plays in their intervention. Problems were identified such as difficulties in physical accessibility to public transport, access to public and private institutions, poor access to everything that means information (especially in the university environment) and difficulties in social integration. Social assistance for people with disabilities must take into account these aspects of the research, because only in this way will be able to achieve the goals of quality care, as well as increasing the quality of life of people with visual impairments and more.
