Description:
There is the opinion that social work in Romania would have been “launched” after the Revolution of ’89; until then, only “ideological policies” would have been practiced to support disadvantaged or vulnerable populations! Nothing is more false, especially if we refer to the era of pre-communist traditions, to the values and to the “community mechanisms” that functioned in the Romanian social space! To better understand the state of social protection in traditional society we will build a propositional paradigm, including the most significant elements: Despite the fact that there were no professionals in the field – in the current sense of the term – and therefore no specialized services, traditional human communities provided to the individual, the family and, in general, to all those in a crisis situation, a real and effective social protection; otherwise, there is no way to explain that in the traditional village, for example, there are no disabled people, abandoned elderly people, “street children”, “massive” divorce, extended family violence.
