Description:
The interest in the phenomenon of social conformity arose with the experiments of Solomon E. Asch (1951, 1956) who proposed an experimental design based on the results of another classical study, that of the process of adherence to the norms of the group (Muzafer Sherif, 1936). A multitude of studies in the Asch paradigm were meant to maintain compliance as the main theme of the research approach in the discipline of social psychology. This phenomenon presents a wide range of research, from gender differences (Harold B. Gerard et al., 1968, F. Sistrunk and J. W. David, 1971), to the importance of the group (David Wilder, 1977, Jennifer D. Campbell and Patrick J. Fairey, 1989) and to the importance given to pregnancy (Robert S. Baron et al., 1996), or the detection or non-detection of the source of influence (Kimberlee Wiver et al., 2007). (The author)
