The volume presents a set of socio-psychological theories on the phenomenon of physical abuse and child neglect, as forms of abuse. This volume aims to delimit the physical abuse of the child from other forms of abuse, starting with the inclusion of this form of abuse in the broader sphere of the concept of abuse, and ending with the specifics of intervention in such cases. Chapter I contains an analysis of the child protection system in Romania, especially regarding the issue of abuse. The paper proposes conceptual delimitations, regarding the definition of the forms of abuse, and the analysis of the main explanatory theories of the phenomenon (medical perspective, the theory of multigenerational transmission, the ecological-interactionist conception, etc.). The volume also presents the analysis of the phenomenon of child abuse in the family environment, being analyzed the psycho-social consequences of child abuse. The phenomenon of child neglect, as a form of child abuse is also presented with reference to the types of neglect, its causes and consequences. Methodological strategies for intervention in the issue of child abuse are also presented.
